Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/3 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions:

  1. Mix the dough
    Step 1:
    In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, active dry yeast, and salt. In a separate small bowl, mix the warm water, olive oil, and sugar. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients while stirring until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough
    Step 2:
    Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Form the dough into a ball.
  3. First rise
    Step 3:
    Place the dough ball in a lightly greased bowl. Cover it with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  4. Punch down and divide

    Punch down the risen dough and divide it into four equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball.
  5. Second rise (optional)
