Ingredients:

  • 500 grams boneless chicken, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2 green chilies chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 egg beaten

Supply:

  • Food processor or blender
  • Frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Mixing bowl

Instructions:

  1. Cook the chicken and chana dal
    Step 1:
In a pressure cooker, add the chicken, chana dal, garlic, ginger, green chilies, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, and chopped onion. Add enough water to cover the ingredients. Cook for about 3-4 whistles or until the chicken and dal are tender.
  2. Make the kebab mixture
    Step 2:
Once cooked, drain the excess water and transfer the chicken and dal mixture to a food processor or blender. Blend it until you get a smooth paste-like consistency. Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and let it cool for a few minutes.
  3. Shape and fry the kebabs
    Step 3:
Once the mixture has cooled down, add fresh coriander leaves and beaten egg. Mix well until all the ingredients are combined. Take a small portion of the mixture and shape it into a flat kebab patty. Repeat the same process with the remaining mixture. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the kebabs until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides. Remove from the pan and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
  4. Serve the Shami Kebabs
    Step 4:
Serve the hot and delicious Shami Kebabs with mint chutney or tamarind chutney. Enjoy!
