Ingredients:
- 1 whole turkey
- 8 cups apple cider
- 1 cup kosher salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup whole black peppercorns
- 8 cloves garlic, smashed
- 4 sprigs fresh rosemary
- 4 sprigs fresh thyme
- 4 cups ice cubes
Supply:
- Large pot or container for brining
- Refrigerator space
- Roasting pan
- Meat thermometer
- Basting brush
- Aluminum foil
Instructions:
-
Prepare the brine
Step 1:In a large pot or container, combine the apple cider, kosher salt, brown sugar, black peppercorns, smashed garlic, fresh rosemary, and fresh thyme. Stir until the salt and sugar are dissolved.
-
Brine the turkey
Step 2:Place the turkey in the brine, ensuring it is fully submerged. If needed, add more apple cider or water to cover the turkey. Add the ice cubes to keep the brine cool.
-
Refrigerate and brine
Step 3:Cover the pot or container and refrigerate for at least 12 hours or overnight, allowing the turkey to brine and absorb the flavors.
-
Remove the turkey from the brine
Step 4:Remove the turkey from the brine and rinse it thoroughly under cold water to remove any excess salt. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
-
Roast the turkey
Step 5:Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan. Roast for about 15 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) when measured with a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh.
-
Baste the turkey
Step 6:During the roasting process, baste the turkey every 30 minutes with the pan juices to keep it moist and flavorful.
-
Let the turkey rest
Step 7:Once the turkey is fully cooked, remove it from the oven and tent it with foil. Let it rest for at least 20 minutes before carving to allow the juices to redistribute.
-
Carve and serve
Step 8:Carve the turkey into slices and serve it with your favorite Thanksgiving side dishes. Enjoy the delicious and moist Apple Cider Brined Turkey!
